August 2025
Dr. Chris Brooks joins the lab as a post-doc. Chris’ Ph.D. studies focused on chronobiology and biological rhythms. Welcome, Chris!
July 2024
Lemon becomes a chartered member of the Neuroscience of Interoception and Chemosensation (NIC) NIH study section.
April 2024
Kudos to lab folks moving forward in their scientific career paths:
- Traci was admitted to graduate school at OU Health Sciences Center to pursue at Ph.D. in Neuroscience!
- Kyle successfully passed the Biology Ph.D. qualifying exam and was given the green light for his dissertation studies!
Congratulations!
February 2024
Our latest paper is now out in J Neurosci. We found, in part, that neural messages from a cold receptor allow the brain to separate cool from warm sensations sensed inside the mouth, and to correctly recognize warm temperatures.
January 2024
The lab welcomes Dr. Neville Ngum as a new post-doctoral fellow! Neville earned his Ph.D. at the University of Nottingham in the UK and has a strong background in ion channel physiology and neuropharmacology.
October 2023
Congratulations to Traci Redwine for successfully organizing and establishing the inaugural Neurobiology Club on the University of Oklahoma campus! This club is an official Registered Student Organization and will soon hold its initial meeting.
July 2023
We have received the Notice of Award for a new 5-yr R01 grant from the NIDCD! This project will study molecular and neural mechanisms of oral temperature preferences and behaviors, and how these preferences influence taste guided behaviors.
March 2023
Thanks to the very hard work of all lab staff, our longstanding R01 grant from the NIDCD was renewed for 5 more years. These projects will examine how and why the brain combines taste information with other sensory inputs, testing the idea that this may reflect a multisensory neural code supporting homeostasis.
